ABOUT US

VISION

As a center of learning activities, the library plays a very important role in achieving the objectives of the university.  It is committed to excellence in services that enables, empowers, and encourages life-long learning.  The library provides access to information resources that advance the teaching, learning aid and critical thinking in the pursuit of knowledge for Notre Dame University community.

MISSION

As service oriented department, the University Library seeks to provide and support learning teaching, research, extension and creative expression by providing timely and effective access to information for the University Community.  A conscious effort to provide information resources and services vital to learning an updated collection and upgraded facilities that would enable the clientele especially the students to learn independently as well as to enhance critical thinking and intellectual honesty.

 GOALS

  1. To assist users to find and use information resources effectively and to acquire the skills needed for a life of independent learning and personal growth.
  2. To seek input from and respond to users as part of our continuing efforts to evaluate and improve services, collections and programs.
  3. To build and preserve collection which support teaching, learning, research, extension and creative expression.
  4. To provide and maintain effective, easy-to-use-catalog, guides and electronic gateway to resources, both local and remote.
  5. To provide the technological and other tools necessary to support and enhance library program and services.
  6. To provide accessible, inviting library facilities which encourage individual and group inquiry.
  7. To collaborate with other members of the community and outside institutions to identify, develop and support a cost-effective means of expanding the resources and services for the university programs and initiatives.
  8. To secure and allocate funding to support library programs and initiatives.

Welcome to the Learning Resource Center!

On behalf of our staff, we extend a warm greeting to all. Throughout our years of operation, we have remained committed and dedicated to assisting both our internal and external clients through our programs and services.

As a support unit of the university, the Learning Resource Center is devoted to providing high-quality library services to our students and other sectors.

Services

SERVICES OFFERED:

  1. Circulation (Loaning and Returning of Books)
    Bonafide students and faculty may borrow books and other library materials. The borrowed items shall be returned according to the due date specified to its type of patron by the librarian.
  2. Film Viewing Services
    Provides assistance to the students and faculty members in their film viewing activity upon request.
  3. LAPTOP TERMINAL / STATION
    Laptop station is a Bring Your Own Device (BYOD). This station provides electrical outlet and allows the students to charge their laptop while using it for their research.
  1. Online Public Access Catalog (OPAC)
    The OPAC or the library catalog provides access to the services and collections of a library. It gives users the information what are the available in the library and how to locate it on the shelve.
  2. Cyber Nook
    Cyber Nook are provided to enable the users to have greater access to rich information sources available in the net.
  3. Bibliographic Service
    List of reference and/or information sources are provided upon the request of the teachers.
  4. Library Extension Service for Outside Researchers
    Library services are extended to other researchers from other schools and communities with minimal library service fee.
  5. LIBRARY USERS EDUCATION PROGRAM
    Provides Library Orientation to students and faculty members with the functions of the library in education and research.  The Library Instruction Services provides the library users with the skills and knowledge necessary to locate and extract the information they need, both now as students, and later as lifelong learners.
  6. DISCUSSION ROOMS
    The Discussion Rooms are provided primarily for library related activities such as story hours, film programs, book reviews, discussed groups, conduct as text based. It can accommodate a minimum of 8 persons and a maximum of 12 persons. Students and faculty members may use the Discussion Rooms through reservation and walk-ins.
  7. BOOK DISPLAY (Buklat Sulyap)
    Newly acquired materials are put on display for borrowing of faculty and students before they are put on shelves.  The books are placed in a shelf accessible upon entrance to the general reading and circulation area.
  8. Reference Service
    Patron may seek the assistance of the librarians in finding relevant materials for their research needs. Librarians likewise give direct instruction and guidance on the use of reference sources and facilities of the library.
  9. LIBRARY BULLELTIN BOARD
    The library provides this as a venue to announce new acquisition, statistical reports on library material utilization, customer’s usage, library programs and scholarly reports / write ups for the academic purposes.  The library’s bulletin boards are used to post general community information, as well as announcements of nonprofit community events and cultural activities.  Bulletin board in the Library is intended for the display of library materials and the promotion of Library programs.
  10. PHOTOCOPYING SERVICES
    Photocopying of library materials is one of the basic library services in order to assist clientele in their information needs.  Librarians are being consulted for this purpose judiciously.  They assist clientele’s request in accordance to copyright law. Outside patrons are allowed to photocopy research materials upon permission granted by the University Librarian.

 

Open Access (OA)

Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ). It is a community-curated online directory that indexes and provides access to high quality, open access, peer-reviewed journals.

Online Journal and Research Databases for Academics (Free). A resource of 101 Free Online Journal and Research Databases for Academics.

Philippine eJournals (PEJ). It is an online collection of academic publications of different higher education institutions and professional organizations. Its sophisticated database allows users to easily locate abstracts, full journal articles, and links to related research materials.


Links to Virtual Libraries:

General Reference. WWW Virtual Library. One of the first virtual library sites, started by Tim Berners-Lee, the creator of html and the web itself. Includes encyclopedias, dictionaries, almanacs, geographical sources and others.

Reference and Periodicals. This virtual library provides separate indexes for teachers, kids, teens, parents, librarians and “community.”

Reference Resources. Internet Public library. Maintained by the University of Michigan. Reference works are broken into over twenty sub categories from almanacs to trivia.


Open Educational Resources and Databases:

PHL CHED Connect. It is an online application that contains higher education course materials in text, audio, and video format, and other digital assets that are useful for teaching, learning and research purposes. It expands opportunities for interdisciplinary teaching and learning by allowing instructors to integrate and revise multiple educational resources.

COVID-19 Information Portal (EBSCO). A resource portal that spans a collective knowledge on coronavirus.  The site is being updated daily and all of the content is free to all.

Education Resources Information Center (ERIC). The Education Resources Information Center(ERIC), of the Institution of Education Sciences, allows you to search by topic for material related to the field of education. Links lead to other sites, where you may have to purchase the information, but you can search for full-text articles only.

Freelipiniana Online Library. Seeks to bring Filipiniana literature to every Filipino in a time when information and education are limited.

HERDIN Plus. Online portal developed by the PCHRD in response to the requirement of the PNHRS that provides easy management and access to health research and related information.

National Commission of Culture and The Arts (NCCA). NCCA’s homepage is the country’s best site for information on Philippine culture and the arts. Search links for biography of national artists, publications about Philippine culture, art photos and contest announcements, both local and international, including employment opportunities are available.

Science Open. Functioning as a research and publishing network, ScienceOpen offers open access to more than 28 million articles in all areas of science. Although you do need to register to view the full text of the articles, registration is free.

Socioeconomic Research Portal of the Philippines. The Socioeconomic Research Portal for the Philippines (SERP-P) is an online knowledge resource that contains socioeconomic studies and materials produced by the Philippine Institute for Development Studies (PIDS) and other academic and research institutions.

Starbooks Online! STARBOOKS is short for Science & Technology Academic and Research-Based Openly Operated Kiosk Station also known as “LIBRARY IN A BOX” intended to serve as information access portals in key areas in the Philippines.
