The NDU Seal

The seal of NDU symbolizes the university’s deep roots and the unique diversity of religion and culture that is the very identity of the university.

We invite you to explore the different features of our seal by clicking the marked portions of the seal.

THE CROSS OF THE OMI - This symbol is the Coat of Arms of the Oblates of Mary Immaculate (OMI), the congregation that founded the University. This also represents the cross of the Catholic Faith.

THE BOOK WITH BURNING TORCH - The open book with the burning torch symbolizes the mission of the University to spread the light of faith and the knowledge of truth for social transformation.

BOOK INSCRIPTION - Inscribed in the book is the OMI motto which says "He is sent to share the good news with the poor. The poor are being evangelized."

THE STONE FORT - This depicts a stone fort or "Kutang Bato" symbolizing the city of Cotabato, the seat of Notre Dame University.

THE ARCH - Overarching the stars is "Sedes Sapientiae" (Seat of Wisdom), a title attributed to Blessed Virgin Mary, Our Lady, the Notre Dame, Patroness of the University.

THE FIVE STARS - Above the shield are five stars standing for the University's core values of Faith, Integrity, Respect, Excellence and Service.

GREEN STRIPES - The twenty-one green and white stripes represent the years Notre Dame had been a college before it earned University status. They symbolize Peace and Hope.
