From the Department Head

Welcome to the Office for Formation and Mission!

Warm welcome to the Office for Formation and Mission! Rooted in Catholic tradition and inspired by the life and charism of St. Eugene de Mazenod, we work together to meet the diverse spiritual needs and interests of Notre Dame University.

At the heart of our mission is holistic and inclusive formation. As agents of formation, we facilitate recollections, retreats, peace workshops, interreligious dialogue seminars, and growth sessions based on faith and religious values. We strive to be a God-centered, value-laden community that helps form young minds to become globally competent, peace advocates, and effective communicators, in collaboration with other units of the University.

Being faithful to our office mandate, we align our programs with the University’s mission and core values, ensuring that all activities contribute to personal growth, community engagement, and the development of leaders with Oblate character.

Our mission goes beyond responding to particular situations. It is a dedication to accompany the University community in various religious activities, pastoral care, and connection with worship. We provide opportunities for prayer, reflection, and communal worship, supporting faith development that is sustained and transformative.

As a diverse community of faiths, cultures, and traditions, we work closely with other units to facilitate religious activities and provide for the spiritual needs of the faithful, including Eucharistic Celebrations, other sacramental services, Da’wah and prayer services, recollections, retreats, and formation programs that foster understanding, respect, and peace.

Anchored in the University’s core values of Faith, Integrity, Respect, Excellence, and Service (FIRES), we are committed to forming leaders with Oblate character—individuals shaped by faith, compassion, and service.

We invite you to journey with us as we continue to form leaders with heart, vision, and dedication to faith, service, and social transformation.

Services

The Office for Formation and Mission at Notre Dame University offers holistic faith formation and spiritual programs for students, faculty, and staff. Rooted in the life and spirituality of St. Eugene De Mazenod, these programs foster personal growth, spiritual development, and transformative leadership.

Integrated Recollection

The university offers a one-day Integrated Recollection program for all Christian and Muslim students—from Grade 3 to 5, Junior High School students from Grade 7 to 11, and college students from first year to third year level. Each year level is guided by a specific theme tailored to their stage of personal and spiritual development.

These programs are designed to encourage reflective introspection, helping participants evaluate their relationships with themselves, with others, and with God.

Retreats

Notre Dame University offers retreats designed to foster a deeper relationship with God and promote personal growth through Oblate spirituality. Retreat experiences are available for students—including Senior High School Grade 12 and 4th-year college students—faculty, and staff. In addition to student retreats, the university holds an annual university-wide retreat for all faculty and staff, providing an opportunity for spiritual renewal, reflection, and community building.

All retreats nurture transformative leaders through a culture of encounter, accompaniment, discernment, and mission. Grounded in the core values of Faith, Integrity, Respect, Excellence, and Service, these programs provide a cohesive and integrative experience of Oblate spirituality formation.

Spiritual Accompaniment / Pastoral Listening

This program provides a supportive space for students to share personal struggles and experiences with trained campus ministers. Through attentive listening and guided reflection, it fosters emotional well-being, spiritual growth, and holistic formation within the university community.

Peace Orientation Workshop

This one-day program engages students in exploring peacebuilding concepts, conflict resolution, and community collaboration. Through interactive workshops, reflective discussions, and practical activities, participants are encouraged to become active advocates for peace in their communities.

Inter-religious Dialogue Program

Designed for first-year college students, this program introduces the essential principles of inter-religious dialogue. It fosters a spirit of inclusiveness, tolerance, and peacebuilding as students begin their academic and character formation at Notre Dame University.

Liturgical Services for Christians

Notre Dame University offers regular liturgical services to nurture the spiritual life of the Christian community. These include daily Masses, Sunday Masses, and Masses upon request for special intentions or occasions. Students, faculty, staff, and guests are invited to encounter Christ, deepen their faith, and actively participate in the sacramental life of the Church.

Prayer Services for Muslims

The university supports the spiritual life of its Muslim community through Da‘wah initiatives and  Salat al-Jumu’ah or Friday Prayer. These programs promote faith formation, moral development, and a deeper understanding of Islamic teachings. They provide opportunities for learning, reflection, and dialogue, fostering a culture of respect, spiritual growth, and interreligious understanding within the university community.

Growth Sessions

The Office for Formation and Mission facilitate Growth Sessions for students, administrators, faculty, and staff. Grounded in the Oblate Transformative Leadership Framework (OTLF), these sessions deepen participants’ understanding and practice of leadership rooted in the Oblate charism.
