In celebration of 200 years of oblates and the beginning of a new academic journey, Notre Dame University formally commenced academic year 2025–2026 with the theme “#OMI 200 Celebrating the OMI Bicentennial Jubilee Sharing in the Oblate Mission” on August 6, 2025, at the Cardinal Quevedo Gymnasium. Following the religious and thanksgiving service, the program continued with a processional march and the presentation of students from various degree programs, signifying their official welcome into the academic community.

The academic year 2025–2026 commenced with a total of 4,292 students officially enrolled across the tertiary, graduate school, and law programs. As presented by the Deans of the respective colleges, the student population includes 1074 from the College of Health and Sciences (CHS), 1,022 from the College of Engineering and Computer Studies (CEnCS), 792 from the College of Business and Accountancy (CBA), 494 from the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS), and 253 from the College of Education (CED). Additionally, 105 students are enrolled in various Graduate School programs, and 552 are enrolled in the College of Law.

Fr. Francis Efren Z. Zabala, OMI, DMin, the University President, delivered his opening address emphasizing the importance of growth over recognition. “What is most important is for us to continually strive for excellence. Whether we will be recognized or not, what is essential is we focus ourselves to continually improve and achieve.” he said.

Fr. Zabala also reflected on the rich history of the Oblates of Mary Immaculate and the significant milestones achieved by NDU throughout the years. Dr. Delma A. Yuarata, Vice President for Academic Affairs and Services, reaffirmed the university’s dedication to its Vision-Mission and the Oblate Transformative Leadership Formation Framework.

Afterwards, the university administrators, faculty members, staff, and other non-teaching personnel were introduced. Mr. Noel Reponte, Director of Student Affairs and Services, then presented the student leaders and representatives from various student organizations.

The ceremony also featured the symbolic lighting of the academic candle. Prof. Jennifer Narreto, MEd, University Registrar and Marshal, highlighted its significance as a symbol of intellectual pursuit, academic excellence, and the guiding light of education.

Fr. Jaime D. Del Rosario OMI, PhD, Tertiary Faculty Assembly President, spearheaded the Pledge of Commitment, which marked the conclusion of the event.
